Looking at the history of the establishment and renaming of the faculty, its activities began in 1961 under the name of the Historical-Philological Faculty. During this period, the faculty was focused on training students in the combined fields of history and philology. From 1968 to 1974, the faculty was reorganized as the Department of History and Geography. During this time, historical sciences were closely linked with geography, allowing students to study historical events and geographical processes in an interconnected manner. This integrative approach expanded the scientific and methodological foundation of the educational process and contributed to enhancing students’ qualifications. Since 1977, the faculty has operated under its independent name — the Historical Faculty. This period marked an important stage in the faculty’s history, as the education process, specializing in historical science, was significantly deepened, and scientific research and teaching methodologies were developed. The faculty gained a significant position in the fields of historical research, academic activities, and scientific leadership. In 2014, the faculty’s name was changed to the Faculty of History and Social Sciences. This name reflected the integration of historical knowledge with modern knowledge in the social sciences. During this period, the faculty expanded its training programs in social sciences, striving to provide students with a multidisciplinary and comprehensive education. Since 2021, the faculty has once again operated under its traditional name — the Historical Faculty. This name symbolizes a return to the faculty’s historical roots and main areas of focus, as well as an emphasis on quality historical education and scientific research. At the same time, the faculty continues to collaborate with the social sciences, providing education that meets modern requirements and standards.
